It was Sage Agastya who made Lalitha Sahasranamam known to the world. Sage Agastya learned the Stotra from Hayagriva after doing penance to him. They also gave it to Lord Hayagriva, an avatar of Lord Vishnu. It is said that they were the ones who composed Lalitha Sahasranamam upon Goddess Lalita’s command. Of these, the most important are the eight Vaag Devis – Vasini, Kameshvari, Aruna, Vimala, Jayani, Modini, Sarveshvari, and Kaulini. More than 60 yoginis, who are the Goddess’ servitors, guard her sacred abode. Sri Chakra Maha Meru is the place where the Mother Goddess resides. These four Sahasranamams are read by devotees daily or weekly, or on auspicious occasions. These names, attributes, or epithets express the quality and nature of the deity. The Sanskrit term, ‘Sahasranamam,’ means “a thousand names.” It is a form of Stotra which eulogizes a deity by using the deity’s 1,000 names, attributes, or epithets. This Stotra is very popular among the devotees of Goddess Shakthi, especially the followers of the Shakta cult in Hinduism, which gives supremacy to the Mother Goddess among all the divine forms. The hymn sings praises of the Mother Goddess, who is an important deity in the Hindu pantheon. Then he also took mantra from Amma.Īfter few days, one evening I got a call from him with the good news that his old company where worked for 28 yrs had called him that very day and offered him the job of GM(Sales)! Before coming to Amritapuri he contacted this company but they did not show much interest.Lalitha Sahasranamam is a sacred Hindu text that is part of the Brahmananda Purana, which is of great antiquity. He had very good darshan of Amma for two days and Amma asked him to sit near him for some time. He started chanting 11 days before arriving in Amritapuri. I gave him a lot of encouragement and explained that it was not necessary to tell Amma about the job problem. He happened to read the article in Matruvani. All his attempts of getting another job failed. He was GM (Sales) of a pharma company, but suddenly he lost his job about a month ago. Last January one gentleman aged 51 came to Amritapuri from Mumbai. At the same there will also be spiritual progress.” “Whoever chants Lalita Sahasranama daily with faith and devotion, Devi takes care of all his/her material needs. Amma’s famous quotation on this is printed on the back cover of Lalita Sahasranama book. Somewhere in 2003 I wrote in an article published in Matruvani about Amma’s formula of daily chanting Sri Lalita Sahasranama (1000 names of Devi) with devotion and faith. And my problem of income was solved as I chanted Lalita daily. When I met Amma in September 1996 I did not have any income for two years! I never told Amma about my problem, just came to receive Her blessings.
